Twitter’s flight to online popularity in such a short period has been phenomenal to say the least.

Along with its distinct lexicon such as tweet, tweeting, tweeps, tweeple, twitterati, etc., Twitter’s distinct icons and graphical elements have seeped into the consciousness of the online masses.

Along with the distinct Twitter lowercase ‘t’ logo and the Fail Whale, the microblogging site’s most famous icon is the Twitter bird.

As proof of the Twitter bird’s growing popularity, an artist has created a series of avatars that uses the bird’s outline and mashes it up with other popular pop culture images.

Adam Koford a.k.a Ape Lad has uploaded on his Flickr account nearly a dozen Twitter Avatars in the shape of the Twitter bird but containing another image altogether such as Chewbacca, Wolverine, Harry Potter, Linus from Peanuts, and other characters from shows, comics, books, and movies.

Care to let your imagination take flight into Ape Lad’s mind? Just click on the picture to see the different avatars.

Despite being the cynical online journos that we are,  Ape Lad’s extremely adorable Twitter Avatars will melt all but the hardest of hearts.

We’re particularly fond of Max and the Where the Wild Things Are monster and Link from the Zelda games. Hopefully, Ape Lad will spread out his wings with more tweetable images soon.  (Ed G)
