Did you grow up watching Super Grover save the day, or listening to Oscar The Grouch’s lovable rants? Can you still hum the theme song of the show until now?

With over 1,500 titles vying to take places on CNN’s list of best video games this year, game publisher big names like Activision, Sony, and Nintendo proved to be forces to reckon with.

CNN launched its list of best games for this year, saying that game trends for 2009 included sequels, co-op play or games that allow players to collaborate instead of compete, social games or those free in social networking sites and fast-growing handheld games.

For the best shooter category, Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 snatched the prize. The newly launched game, for 17 year-olds and above, runs on Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3 and PC. CNN described the game as a “gripping near-future military shooter.”

There’s so much buzz surrounding filmmaker James Cameron’s opus Avatar that it’s hard to believe what’s real and what’s not. However, what is very real about Avatar is that it’s becoming the first convergence point between a movie and a video game.

Based on a 1994 script treatment written by Cameron, the science-fiction film Avatar is being acclaimed as a filmmaking breakthrough in terms of technology even before its upcoming release this December. The story, about a human-alien war on a far-off planet named Pandora over its resources, will feature the merging of both human and alien perspectives in the movie.

More than 50 video games accumulating a total of $13,000 were bought by the state library. Now all patrons can have access to games for various recent consoles across Mississippi’s eight branch libraries. continue reading…

As the saying goes, ‘small is beautiful.’

Netbooks are usually serious affairs (like word processing or web browsing) as there’s not much space for anything else. Because of their size and weight, these devices are not known for their graphic chips and processing power.

Fortunately, Joe Rybicki of Liliputing.com pointed out that you can still have fun with a netbook that has a 1.6 GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and no dedicated video card. continue reading…

It’s game time again this holiday season, as the new Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games will surely get players hitting the slopes on their Nintendo Wii and DS units.

The motion-controlled minigame features nine games like baseball, soccer/football, tennis, basketball, golf and even some ski jumping. Each game has its own respective sub-events. The games are good both in party game mode and single-player festival mode, and can accommodate up to four players either competitively or cooperatively.

Although all of the games are inspired by the real Olympics, there’s also the Dream Events, which are basically fantasy sports that need unlocking. The Dream Events through festival mode have more difficult tests of strenght and endurance, making it perfect for those who don’t want to be tied to conventional sports. continue reading…
