The king of cars has been overthrown by a new challenger—in this case, the retro-ish 2008 Dodge Challenger reminiscent of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s muscle cars.

According to the recent survey by Consumer Reports, the V8-powered Dodge Challenger has topped the Toyota Prius hybrid in terms of customer satisfaction. The survey noted that 92 percent of Dodge owners would definitely buy another one given the opportunity. continue reading…

Here’s a driving tip for you: if you’re ever lost while driving, make sure you’re driving a Ford.

According to a recent navigation system survey commissioned by JD Power and Associates, Ford managed to rank first and second with their Clarion navigation systems in their Lincoln MKS and Ford Flex respectively.

Likewise, the survey noted that Ford took five of the top ten slots: the Ford F-150 was at 4th place, the Ford Escape was at 7th while the Ford Edge followed at 8th.  Meanwhile, non-Ford vehicles were ranked accordingly: the Acura TL was at 3rd, the Porsche 911 was at 5th, the Cadillac CTS was at 6th, the Hyundai Genesis was at 9th, and the Infiniti FX-series was at 10th. continue reading…

Members of Switzerland-based Sauber team have their fingers crossed that good things really come to those who wait.

Staring at the possibility of missing next year’s Formula One tourney with BMW bailing out on the races and with Malaysian-backed newcomer Lotus F1 snatching its spot on the grid, Sauber team’s fate was rather dim.

But the Swiss racing squad patiently waited on the wings for the next team that will bow out of the competition. Last month, Toyota said it won’t be chasing the checkered flag after its final race in Abu Dhabi this year, opening the 13th place for Sauber. continue reading…

Thinking of buying a car? If an award-giving body is right, the best cars to buy are Volkswagen and Ford. And Toyota? Sorry, but the road doesn’t lead there.

According to the recent 2009 Total Value Awards, Volkswagen and Ford topped their Total Value Index (TVI) among more than 48,000 buyers of 2009 models from September last year to March this year.

The TVI was made based on assumptions regarding expected reliability, fuel economy, price, etc. vis-à-vis ownership experience. In other words, the true value of the vehicle is equated as the worth of the vehicle’s attributes against its costs. continue reading…

Is your car taking you for a ride?  Then see the list of the safest cars around.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently declared their Top Safety Pick Award for 2010, listing 19 cars and 8 SUVs for their Top Safety Pick and citing them for protecting people in front, side, rear and rollover crashes during tests. These vehicles were also commended for electronic stability control, which reduces crash risks.

Moreover, the IIHS tightened the criteria for the award and required roof strength for protection against rollovers in order to be included in the top list. IIHS president Adrian Lund said, “Consumers can use this list to zero in on the vehicles that are on the top rung for safety.” continue reading…

Here’s a story about the little car that could. Volkswagen, maker of the Beetle, is now the world’s largest automaker as it overtakes long-time giant Toyota.

According to a report by IHS Global Insight, the German company managed to beat their Japanese rival as they produced 4.4 million vehicles ranging from the Golf, Polo and the Passat from the start of 2009. However, Toyota only managed to produce four million vehicles since January. continue reading…
