It’s the gold statuette that cements your name and reputation in Hollywood, but if it would come at a hefty price, say a relationship, would you still want a coveted Oscar?

CNN noted a bittersweet trend–recent Oscar winners, particularly best actresses, have lost marriages or long-term relationships shortly before or after their winning moments at the Kodak Theatre.

To top the list is Julia Roberts, who got a best actress Oscar for Erin Brockovich in 2001. America’s Pretty Woman was escorted on stage by her then long-time beau Benjamin Bratt. But who cares about violent collisions right? Certainly, Hollywood’s biggest stars, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, are not one of them. Following the filming of their action film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, the two rode a whirlwind romance named by the paparazzi “Brangelina.”

And now, it seems astronomy is catching up with the megawatt couple as reports indicated that they are separating and are now fighting over the custody if their six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Know and Vivienne. continue reading…

Obviously, Hollywood hasn’t escaped from the clutches of the global recession. In order to adjust, they’re taking on relatively unknown actors instead of hiring A-list movie stars.

Some examples are the recent successful movies that have graced the box-office lists. These movies include the buddy comedy The Hangover (little-known cast, made $459 million), District 9 (filmed in South Africa, made $200 million), and Paranormal Activity (unknown couple, made $100 million).

They’ve also raised the star mileage of actors Bradley Cooper and Sharlto Copley respectively. continue reading…
