When “Abbey Road” is mentioned, you can almost hear John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr sing All You Need Is Love. That is how iconic this London studio is.

But with speculations swirling around that its cash-strapped owner, EMI, is putting it out on the market to ease its debt, the building’s unique character is being threatened.

Good thing British Culture Minister Margaret Hodge declared it as a national historic landmark. Hodge gave Abbey Road a Grade II, meaning any future alteration should first consider the preservation of the structure’s original character. continue reading…

He first caught our eyes with his boy-next-door charms when he sang Your Body is a Wonderland, But now, after a 360° image spin, John Mayer still has all eyes glued on him.

Infamous for his bluntness, and yes, even his chronic cursing, sleepy-eyed and shirtless Meyer spilled his guts out on Rolling Stone’s latest edition. The issue, which will hit newsstands on February 4, will feature Mayer’s take on past loves, sexuality and even Tiger Woods. continue reading…

Facing a major shake-up in its ninth season, it will be quite a tall order for American Idol to sustain its momentum.

There was a time when primetime Tuesday and Wednesday were blocked by TV viewers as Idol days and no show could challenge it in terms of ratings. But not anymore as changes in the panel threaten the show.

After contract negotiations with fan-favorite judge Paula Abdul fell apart last year, talk show host and comedienne Ellen DeGeneres was tapped to take her place. Immediately, critics pointed DeGeneres’ lack of musical background.

The entertainment business is tough; in fact, it’s so tough that it took a wayward hot air balloon and a hoax of a missing six-year old kid just to get a slice of the limelight.

Topping CNN’s list of most viewed online stories this year is Falcon Heene, more popularly known as “balloon boy.” Falcon shot up on CNN’s online poll after being the subject of a widescale search by land and air.

Falcon, the youngest of three brothers, was reportedly on a wayward hot air balloon that hovered over Colorado. After a frantic chase by the authorities, the balloon landed without Falcon on it as the boy was at home all along.

Listeners to the New York Philharmonic’s weekly radio broadcast will be delighted to hear actor Alec Baldwin’s voice, who is now the official announcer of the classical music broadcast.

This involvement seems unusual for a Hollywood figure. But it’s more surprising that Baldwin has a passion for classical music that allows him to talk as comfortably about orchestral repertory just like in filmmaking and television projects.

Although he openly admitted in an interview that he’s not a member of the New York Philharmonic, Baldwin likened his role to the “batboy on the Yankees.” During the recording sessions, he even practiced pronouncing the names of performers and composers. continue reading…
