It’s the gold statuette that cements your name and reputation in Hollywood, but if it would come at a hefty price, say a relationship, would you still want a coveted Oscar?

CNN noted a bittersweet trend–recent Oscar winners, particularly best actresses, have lost marriages or long-term relationships shortly before or after their winning moments at the Kodak Theatre.

To top the list is Julia Roberts, who got a best actress Oscar for Erin Brockovich in 2001. America’s Pretty Woman was escorted on stage by her then long-time beau Benjamin Bratt. Sadly though, Roberts’ “I love the world” speech was short-lived as the two parted ways a few months later. continue reading…

Kobe Bryant hoisting Lakers' 2009 trophy (Photo: pic.chick14)

What’s an NBA All-Star game without Kobe Bryant?

With only a few days to go before Sunday’s highly anticipated West versus East scuffle in Dallas, there’s still no word if the reigning Finals Most Valuable Player would suit up or sit out. Bryant, who shared last year’s All-Star MVP nod with former teammate Shaquille O’Neal, is nursing a sore left ankle.

The flamboyant Lakers guard has suggested he would stay on the sidelines if his bum ankle won’t heal on time. He sustained the injury in Philadelphia last week and aggravated it in the next game versus Charlotte when teammate Lamar Odom accidentally stepped on his foot.

“If it’s an injury where I feel like I can play through it and have it heal while I’m playing, then I’ll play,” Bryant told the Associated Press, adding, “but if it’s the type of injury where it’s going to get worse when I play, then I won’t.”

The injury has forced Bryant to miss three straight games as of Wednesday night, but Lakers coach Phil Jackson is not complaining. The team has won all three games minus its franchise player.

Naturally, the Lakers would rather have Bryant skip the All-Star game to get healthy come spring when the playoffs kick into high gear. But don’t tell that to NBA commissioner David Stern, who always makes sure the league’s best interests supersede any single team’s welfare, never mind if it happens to be the league’s most popular. continue reading…

It was a slim two-point win for the Los Angeles Lakers, but it was a record-breaking conclusion for Coach Phil Jackson.

In Jackson’s storied coaching career, particularly with the Lakers, he has always been taken up or measured against Pat Riley.

But after the Lakers finally closed out the stubborn Charlotte Bobcats with 99-97 victory on Thursday, the 64-year-old Jackson became LA’s most successful coach, eclipsing the equally decorated career wins of Riley. continue reading…

The phenomenal box-office performance of “Avatar” has shown that mainstream moviegoers appreciate 3D, This is why it’s not surprising that Warner Bros. is set to announce that two of their much-anticipated productions—”Clash of the Titans” and the two-part “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”—will have 3D versions.

Though Warner Bros. has not yet released an official statement regarding such move, it is already out in the open that “Clash of the Titans” has already been converted into 3D by an outside vendor. Initially scheduled for showing on March 26 this year, the film will be moved one week to April 2 to accommodate the process of 3D-fication. continue reading…

When Anthony Hopkins acts, he is such a chameleon that it’s virtually impossible to separate the actor from the role.

His followers might still shudder at his lifelike portrayal of the maniacal Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs, for which he won an Oscar. But the actor’s other preoccupations, aside from being a ham, might take us closer to the workings of his mind.

In this case, his talent for the visual arts broadens his humanity outside of the movie screen. Who knew Hopkins could paint? continue reading…

He first caught our eyes with his boy-next-door charms when he sang Your Body is a Wonderland, But now, after a 360° image spin, John Mayer still has all eyes glued on him.

Infamous for his bluntness, and yes, even his chronic cursing, sleepy-eyed and shirtless Meyer spilled his guts out on Rolling Stone’s latest edition. The issue, which will hit newsstands on February 4, will feature Mayer’s take on past loves, sexuality and even Tiger Woods. continue reading…

Astronomically speaking, stars are not aligned too close to each other; otherwise, they would most certainly explode.

But who cares about violent collisions right? Certainly, Hollywood’s biggest stars, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, are not one of them. Following the filming of their action film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, the two rode a whirlwind romance named by the paparazzi “Brangelina.”

And now, it seems astronomy is catching up with the megawatt couple as reports indicated that they are separating and are now fighting over the custody if their six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Know and Vivienne. continue reading…
