Did you grow up watching Super Grover save the day, or listening to Oscar The Grouch’s lovable rants? Can you still hum the theme song of the show until now?

With Elmo, Cookie Monster, Big Bird and other Sesame Street favorites so widely available in merchandise and the media, you might wonder why they have not appeared in video games.

So did Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment– and now the company giant is set to release a series of games for the beloved children’s brand, bringing the 40 year old television show even closer to their generation-spanning fans. continue reading…

“When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a huge sword.” — Book Of Revelations 6:3-4, New Testament

With over 1,500 titles vying to take places on CNN’s list of best video games this year, game publisher big names like Activision, Sony, and Nintendo proved to be forces to reckon with.

CNN launched its list of best games for this year, saying that game trends for 2009 included sequels, co-op play or games that allow players to collaborate instead of compete, social games or those free in social networking sites and fast-growing handheld games.

For the best shooter category, Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 snatched the prize. The newly launched game, for 17 year-olds and above, runs on Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3 and PC. CNN described the game as a “gripping near-future military shooter.”

Boys, especially those of the shy and geeky kind whose usual area of expertise is gaming, are normally regarded as aloof towards girls. Well guys, all that is set to change.

This week players in the Xbox Live marketplace were treated to the launch of a new game entitled Don’t Be Nervous Talking 2 Girls, an instructional guide that teaches boys how to engage in conversations confidently with girls.

The game simulates a visual novel where the player tries to talk to a girl named Jessica. As shown in the screenshot, Jessica is a lovely lady clad in a green shirt. She constantly talks and the player needs to win her by correctly choosing the most pleasant line in the given choices. When the player picks the wrong answer, he’ll need to try his luck again lest Jessica will threaten to call the police. continue reading…

Video game sequels are more or less a standard affair in the industry. But when you’re talking about the sequel to one of the most universally acclaimed video game that stars an iconic caped crusader, it’s definitely big news.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced that a sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum is in the works. UK-based Rocksteady Studios will still be the game’s developer. After spending countless hours as the Dark Knight locked in with Gotham’s most dangerous criminals in Arkham, we’d dare say we’re very excited to hear the news just like everyone who’s played the game.

While the Joker might disagree, Batman’s latest video game outing is his best yet. Previous Batman games, with the exception of  LEGO Batman, all failed to effectively live up to the legacy of the World’s Greatest Detective. continue reading…

World War II games have been around since FPSs became available on our PCs and gaming consoles. All of them have focused on recapturing those Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers moments. This time, however,  Xbox 360 game The Saboteur makes the war as a backdrop instead of the focus.

The story revolves around revenge against the Nazis in occupied France, where players take the role of an Irish race car driver Sean Devlin. His preference for drinking, swearing, and mischievous antics makes it inevitable that he cross paths with a blonde-haired, blue-eyed, driver/Nazi torturer named known as Dierker. Sean’s finding out of Dierker’s tortures fuels his revenge as he heads to Paris.

Soldiers of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 watch out, the commander-in-chief will terminate anyone who’ll be caught “cheat-bombing.”

Xbox 360 Live Online Service Director Stephen Toulouse has announced that they will ban players who repeatedly take advantage of a glitch with the javelin missile exploit portion. The length of suspension will be determined by frequency and effects of the abuse. Sanctions can range from a day or two to a few weeks, while repeat violators may be banned permanently.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 games gives players the privilege to drop a grenade before they surrender to death, a kind of a farewell statement to their undefeated enemies. Modern Warfare 2 is equipped with such a perk, but this however can be abused through a glitch when releasing the grenade. continue reading…

There’s so much buzz surrounding filmmaker James Cameron’s opus Avatar that it’s hard to believe what’s real and what’s not. However, what is very real about Avatar is that it’s becoming the first convergence point between a movie and a video game.

Based on a 1994 script treatment written by Cameron, the science-fiction film Avatar is being acclaimed as a filmmaking breakthrough in terms of technology even before its upcoming release this December. The story, about a human-alien war on a far-off planet named Pandora over its resources, will feature the merging of both human and alien perspectives in the movie.

It’s no surprise that with the technological advances Cameron has used to create the film, Avatar is also being released as a video game with the help of game developers Ubisoft. This is Ubisoft’s key corporate strategy behind Avatar: the convergence of movies and video games.  continue reading…
