Some market watchers were worried that the recession would hit post-Thanksgiving shopping, but apparently they made the wrong call based on online numbers.

Tight-gripped consumers gave in to “e-tailers” or online vendors’ mouth-watering discounts and other shopping perks like free shipping. These strategies, CNN said, are driving online sales.

As of 2:20 p.m. ET, Internet monitoring company Akamai said the 270 retailing sites they were monitoring drew over 4.3 million visitors per minute in North America alone. continue reading…

CASIO_Image_GIGA

How slim can you get? Just ask Casio.

The well-known Japanese maker of electronic products, timepieces, computers and calculators has just introduced the EX-G1, a shock-resistant, waterproof, dustproof digital camera that is only 19.9 millimeters thick—making it the world’s slimmest.

This thin-but-mean gizmo is a toughie for harsh environments. Unlike other cameras, the EX-G1 boasts of a two-layer construction, with the waterproof polycarbonate inner body protectively held by a stainless steel outer body. What’s more, the polycarbonate is reinforced with fiberglass to help withstand shock. continue reading…

If you don’t know what present to give for someone special this holiday season, the safest choice is always electronics.

While it is quite sweet to get a scrapbook made from scratch or a sonata that remotely sounds like Beethoven, gifting someone with an electronic device is way cooler, admit it, and not to mention easier too.

Think about it, you don’t have to put much thought on the color scheme as most devices, if not all, come in standard tones. Plus, you’d also be spared from confusing measurements and sizes that still don’t fit even though you follow vital stats right on the dot. continue reading…

The second iteration of Olympus’ digital PEN micro four thirds camera, the E-P2 is set to arrive in stores next month.

As the first digital PEN camera, the Olympus E-P1 opened up the possibility of SLR-like shooting minus the bulk. Like the analog PEN cameras, the E-P1 has an interchangeable lens system which is based on the micro four thirds standard.

The camera was seen as the perfect merging of the characteristics of prosumer shooters and digital SLRs. The PEN cameras are currently one of the smallest cameras with interchangeable lenses. continue reading…

One of the problems photographers always encounter when shooting indoors or during nighttime is the limited amount of light available. Many otherwise good shots have been ruined simply because of a hideously dark setting or a hazy, ghostlike background. Luckily, one of the world’s top camera manufacturers has just come up with a pretty bright (literally) solution. continue reading…

Polaroid_instant_film

Polaroid is taking a step back in time by returning a fan favorite: the instant camera. After retiring the classic camera in 2008, the Massachusetts-based company is readying its return to the market.

Polaroid had initially phased out their analog instant camera to focus on their line of digital cameras. The company had been suffering from earlier financial problems after being unable to assess the potential impact of the digital camera technology. In fact, they had filed bankruptcy in 2001 with the brand bought by another company and then later diluted with other devices like TVs and DVD players.

However, after the company came under new management, Polaroid said they had seen a possible niche product in the cameras. They then decided to make the cameras available among the hardcore collectors.
